Is There A Difference Between Fashion and Style??

There has always been a debate for years on whether fashion and style are one and the same. A long time ago, I use to think they meant the same thing, that’s until I got older and started looking into the fashion industry and realizing who I was.

When I think of fashion, I think of designer labels and people who want to follow every trend that’s out there. Now don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with following a trend, but make it your own. Anyone can throw on labels and think it’s hot when in actuality it could be a fashion disaster. I have been around men and women who just throw on labels and are quick to broadcast who they are wearing. Does that make you stylish or fashionable?

If we look into the definitions of style and fashion, you will easily see a huge difference between the two. Fashion takes our attention away from ourselves and style brings attention directly to ourselves.

Let’s take Malaysia’s look for example. I love this ensemble she put together…No Rules! It didn’t have to match and she still looked fabulous. I love the confidence with no care about what someone else thinks.

I am not saying don’t wear designer labels at all. I am simply saying, create your own style and add a little Chanel, Christian Louboutin, Giuseppe, or etc. lol…( just a little sense of humor).

Style is something that everyone does not possess. One of my favorite quotes from Yves Saint Laurent is “Fashion fades, Style is eternal.” To me that means a person can wear labels from head to toe but that doesn’t make YOU, but style is something that comes from inside. What I mean by that is, a person can go to the thrift store, Goodwill, Forever 21, Zara, and etc. and put items together that’ll make you go…”Wow!” Vintage is also another great example of style. It is okay to mix high and low fashion but don’t let the labels justify who you are. You make the outfit, don’t let it make you.

It’s about what is in my sense of self, my identity, my perception of who I am. I get dressed based on how I am feeling whether I decide to wear heels or flats. I could even feel bright and want to throw on pink or yellow. That’s my decision, not because everyone is doing it. Style is a reflection of who you are.

Remy Ma took her look to another level with different patterns. Many would not chance sporting stripes and polk dots at the same time. The colors compliment each other, which makes the patterns flow. To add to her look, she wore light blue pumps for the pop of color. I would have opted for a red pop for my personal take, but I love this for Remy. Definitely an amazing look!

How would you classify yourself, fashionable or stylish?
