The song begins with a sample of Method Man from the movie” How High” speaking over a haunting guitar which sounds like a cowboy-movie theme music. The track begins and ends with the chorus “praise the lord, they take you quick if you trying now”. The rapper flows very well over the minimalist beat which balances well with his smooth voice. The production on the song allows his lyricism to shine bright.
The rapper compassionately talks about various topics like self-appreciation “there’s only one you in the universe”, domestic violence “I can’t dream that there’s a single beat I won’t like except it’s a man laying hands upon his wife”, corruption “politicians are living lives they can’t afford”, poverty “yet some of us have half of four”.
The song was arranged in a way (two hooks at the end with a long verse in between) to deliver his message directly to his audience without breaks.
General Rating: just above average
